01 / The problem
Malaysia’s official statistics existed, but they were hard to find and harder to use. The public needed one place to get the data raw, or read it as a dashboard that makes sense at a glance.
02 / The contribution
I led the frontend: a library of highly composable chart components behind every dashboard, the data catalogue for browsing and downloading datasets, and full English–Malay i18n. Next.js ISR keeps pages fast while the data behind them keeps updating.
03 / The result
OpenDOSM NextGen launched in January 2023, putting GDP, prices, population and more in front of policymakers, researchers, journalists and the public, free to download as data, tables or charts.
Irfan contributed to this project as an individual contributor, as lead frontend engineer.
